Carte postale: Happy Halloween

By Ann | October 31, 2012

I was supposed to leave California yesterday, but the storm has extended my visit for a few more days. The photos of the East Coast are horrible and my heart goes out to those facing damaged property, power cuts, floods and worse. Meanwhile, I’m guiltily basking in the California sunshine, carving pumpkins with my family and getting ready for a wave of trick-or-treaters. I found the photos above in my childhood bedroom — me, age 5, in one of my favorite Halloween costumes, Holly Hobby.

Wherever you are, may you be safe and dry, with access to candy, dear readers.

You’re adorable! I love those photos.

I’m gobsmacked at how bad that storm/hurricane was – I never thought it would cause this much destruction. I can’t stop thinking about everybody over there.

Oh Ann, how cute can one tiny person BE? Those pictures are just precious :)
I’m glad you’re safe and sound, and am hoping that things improve quicker than they expect.

So cute! And happy that you’re safe. Hope you get to go home soon, and same goes for anyone displaced by that crazy storm.

I was guessing that you were Laura Ingalls Wilder, budding writer!

The devastation in the east is truly sad but I’m happy you are spending some extra time relaxing with your family. Enjoy your time. I love the pictures!

Oh my goodness, those photos!! How adorable. Your sweet little self and how much do I love that you had a little red-headed buddy? Could have been me!

Travel safely and when you do get home, I truly hope that all will be well…

We are Day 3 without power. We are fortunate enough to have friends close by who did not lose power and stayed with them last night. Despite the inconvenience…the tots are faring well. I can’t believe the destruction on the shore, south of us. With winter around the corner, it’s going to be a long recovery.

Emma — Gobsmacked is a good word for it. The photos are heartbreaking, especially seeing those destroyed boardwalks. :/ I’m adding my thoughts to yours.

Katia — Thanks, m’dear! CK and I were talking about my favorite Halloween costume and I was so excited to find actual photographic evidence!

Camille — Merci! We got back last night, only a few days delayed. I hope the same is soon true for everyone.

Anne — Now THAT would have been a good costume!

Jeanne — Thanks for stopping by! We had a nice visit and the weather was just PERFECT!

Heather in Arles — Aw, wouldn’t that have been fun?! Thanks for your kind wishes. Washington DC is back to business, thankfully spared the brunt this time…

Amy Kim — I am so relieved to hear you and your family are safe and hope you get home soon. The destruction to the Jersey shore is heartbreaking and I hope the cleanup will be swift . I know NJ’s trademark grit will be an important factor.

Love those photos, and agree with Heather about your red-headed (spindly-legged) friend – red heads, unite. :)

Also glad to hear you are safely back on the east coast and that D.C. is back to business as usual – one of the few times that phrase sounds comforting. Boy, I feel for everyone whose homes and memories were rudely smacked away by Storm Sandy.
