Winter beauties
By Ann | January 26, 2012
I have a silly new hobby. Lately, I’ve been buying vegetables at the market, bringing them home and photographing them. I know, it’s crazy. But doesn’t Mother Nature seem impossibly beautiful sometimes?

Those are beautiful! Which market did you go to? Just got back from Paris and we went to Rue Cler; our favorite; wish we were there right now!

Oh, they have that veg on top here at our winter markets. What the heck does one do with it? Is it like cauliflower, ann?

I do that, too, because there’s no better artist than Nature herself. The patterns, colors, textures are all so fresh! I try different color combinations, shapes, and sizes, too. How about one with the various baguettes – which I dearly miss since I’m in San Francisco now?

Goodness, you’ll be growing them next. Come and join the obsessive Ardeche vegetable gardeners’ club.

Not crazy at all… you’re right – each one is a beautiful little piece of art. Breathtaking, really!

A welcome blast of color during gray days!

Beautiful photos Ann. I like to do something similar. I buy beautiful pieces of fruit and arrange them as decorative elements like a flower arrangement. I tend to look for odd or distinct markings.

Great photos, as usual. I read recently that the broccoflower spiral corresponds to the Fibanacci series like a lot of flowers and plants do.

Great photos and I agree – the big lettuces get me every time.

Love that top photo – what is that? Can you please make something with it and share?

I don’t think it’s crazy at all! I too find myself searching out brightly colored fruits and vegetables this time of year. Lovely!
