Sunday in Paris
By Ann | March 8, 2010

What a beautiful blustery day it was yesterday, bright and brisk. After a few weeks away from Paris, I was happy to sink back into comfortable Sunday activities. What did I do?

Shopped for winter citrus at the market.

There were even blood oranges.

Admired the spring tulips.

Stocked up on “muffins anglais.”

Bought a giant gougère (cheese puff), which I saved for a pre-dinner treat.

Planned for an upcoming trip.

Met a friend for hot chocolate and gossip.

Inspected the forsythia on my walk home — spring is almost here!

Watched the streets get swept clean after the market.

Lentil soup and bulghur wheat salad for dinner.
I also took a nap, caught up on back issues of the New Yorker, washed a pile of laundry, and a stack of dishes. How did you spend your Sunday?

Good post! Where did you find the English muffins? The ones at Monoprix are not worth eating.

Sunday… oatmeal and apples for breakfast, then cleaning the apartment. Jeu de Paume and Musée de la Chasse with an intervening motorcycle parade on the rue de Rivoli. Bread from Pain de Sucre slathered with butter and sprinkled with salt. Video games, then soup for dinner while watching Scrubs. I think I may have done laundry, too. And mourned the end of my vacation.

I spent my Sunday following election news in Baghdad — while missing Paris (and CtB) very much. Those oranges look particularly appealing! (A-peeling?)

3Samovar — I would be delighted to see you at my event tomorrow. I’ll post something on Twitter, but for those interested, it’s Wednseday March 10 at 7.30, the American Library in Paris, 10 rue du Général Camou, in the 7th!
Terry — The muffins are from the Bd Raspail Sunday marché bio — look for the stand!
Camille — Sounds like a lovely day (except for the end of vacation part — dragsky). What’s the Musée de la Chasse? I’m intrigued!
Chris — The oranges are from Italy and are delicious — very juicy and sweet.

Oh that’s a leisurely (yet packed) Sunday you’ve got there. I was cocooned away somewhere near the beach (alas it was too cold to actually do anything about it) and without internet connection! But it was tranquil and sunny, giving me a break that I’ve been craving

Ann,
I haven’t even been home a week and your pictures make me wish I could be back in Paris right this minute! I love blood oranges and I can’t ever find them where I live. Thinking blood oranges, orange sanguine sorbet at Berthillon….one of my all time favorites!
Thanks for sharing your market day with us!

She’s hiding something! By “brisk” she means FREEZING!!! Although I agree it IS nice to have blue sky and sun, it is still way too cold around here!!!

That’s quite a busy Sunday! Just wanted to stop in and say you did a great job at the reading tonight! Learned a lot about regional Chinese cuisine, though I was hungry for more details about the book. Guess I’ll just have to read it! Congratulations!

Don’t you love Sundays like that? You somehow manage to pack so much in, but it feels so leisurely and heavenly…
I had a divine brunch at Super Nature last Sunday, followed by a bike ride over to La Pagode to see A Single Man. That was also quite brilliant.
But I have a wide open weekend ahead of me and you’ve inspired me to visit the Raspail market on Sunday - it’s been too long!

Lil — I love winter at the beach — so romantic. Fires of driftwood. Hope you got the rest you needed!
Cheryl in STL — Blood oranges remind me most of all of Rome in winter, when you can order a glass of blood orange juice at the bar and it comes all freshly squeezed, the color deep and red. I will have to try that sorbet at Berthillon!
Kim B. — Finally we have mild temps to go with the beautiful blue sky and sunshine!
Parisimperfect — Thank you for coming to the event last week! I saw you in the audience and am sorry I didn’t have a chance to say hello.
Sweetfreak — I love la Pagode! Did you make it to the Raspail market last week?
Diane C. — I’m sorry I missed you in NYC, too! The oranges and English muffins made for a very nice breakfast that Sunday, I must say!
Gigi G. — Wow, thank you for reading KC — I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with the Mandarin studies!

Oh this looks divine! I am desperate for spring, which is very late to Asia this year. Thank you for spreading a little springtime!

Hi,
thanks for these pictures. You actually reminded me of my Paristime a while back. In the middle of such a huge city - one can find these tresureys. I was in my tweenties back then and somehow it was not the markets that turned me on……but nowadays being a mother of four - everything is about food and I love it. thanks and have a lovely day.
PS: I pressume you speak french?
