Southern California speaks Kitchen Chinese!
By Ann | February 27, 2010
Bonjour mes amis! I am back from my wanderings and home from my book tour!I was so happy to meet so many old and new friends in Southern California and couldn’t believe it when I saw Book Soup’s sign in Hollywood (photo above). How many times do you see your name in lights on Sunset Boulevard? Next to Rupaul, no less!

In case you don’t know it, Book Soup is a terrific independent bookstore and they did a wonderful job hosting my talk — and sold out of copies of Kitchen Chinese!

I also loved speaking at Laguna Beach Books, another fantastic So Cal independent bookstore.
Owner Jane Hanauer and programs manager Danielle Bauter organized a wonderful event, with lovely introductions – and a packed house!

After the talk, I was honored to sign a few books.
And now, after one final cancelled flight, I am happy to be home. While I was away, spring crept up on Paris, today the air is very soft, and the days are lengthening. Though I have a bit of digging out to do, I feel fortified by the kilo of clementines I bought in the market yesterday, and the knowledge that strawberries, artichokes and peas will be here soon.
Thank you, mes amis, for your kindness and support and interest in Kitchen Chinese. If you live in Paris, I hope you’ll join me on March 10 for my talk at the American Library. I would love to meet you!
P.S. Kitchen Chinese has been busy! Check out S. Krishna’s lovely review (“a terrific novel about one woman’s journey in order to find herself”). In the Miami Herald, I’ve recommended my current favorite read. My editor, Wendy Lee, wrote a lovely essay about Kitchen Chinese in the Huffington Post. Also, visit my guest blog at the Book Club Cookbook, where you can enter a drawing to win a free copy of Kitchen Chinese.

Bravo for cool events and a great presentation! That picture of the Sunset marquee is a real keeper. I was so pleased to be your sidekick on the trip!

You are right — whoever dreamed that you and RuPaul would be sharing a marquee?! That is hilarious. So glad for the fantastic turnout for all your events. And love your chic black dress!

Bravo, Ann! We’ve been qvelling ever since! Your talks were filled with humor and interest and wonderful photos of mouth-watering foods. Kitchen Chinese should be flying off the shelves.
