Hello and greetings from San Francisco! Though I’m officially in town to promote my novel, Kitchen Chinese – I hope you’ll join me for my reading TONIGHT at 6pm at Books, Inc. (601 Van Ness) — I’ve managed to sneak in a little fun as well. What have I been up to?

A beautiful walk along the Pacific to Point Fort.

Admiring views of the Golden Gate bridge.

Eating my fill of tacos and burritos in the Mission.

Thrilled to see Kitchen Chinese at Books, Inc.!

Join me tonight for the long-awaited debut of my Powerpoint presentation on Chinese regional cuisine, and a discussion on books, writing and Kitchen Chinese!

UPDATED: Here are a few photos of the wonderful event at Books, Inc.

I was so excited to see old friends from Beijing — and to meet a new one, tiny baby K.!

Thanks to all who joined me in San Francisco — I loved seeing you!

… And a real shout out to our friends Alex and Claire for putting us up (and allowing laundering, wildcat sourdough toastmaking, and petting of Hunter and Zeke!). Without them, we’d certainly be hanging in a chow line! Seriously, it has been a pleasure to rediscover the sights, sounds and flavors of this great town. We even took the cable car from Powell and Market to Fisherman’s Wharf — from student ragamuffin at SFSU to unapologetic tourist in 21 years!

Snif. San Francisco was my home for seven years and it still gives me a lift (and a jolt of jealousy) when I see photos of it. Gorgeous… and delicious. I hope you have time to go to the Ferry Building, Tartine Bakery, Bi-Rite Creamery, Citizen Cake…

We had such fun with you guys! You are welcome here anytime. Safe travels to southern California and good luck on your upcoming events! We miss you already and so do Huntero and Zekey…

Soup dumplings!!! Jealous. In related news, we tried out that dim sum place near us, and it was quite good. I’d love to get your opinion when you get back…

Trying not to slobber on my Mac seeing that yummy-looking Mexican food. So jealous! Glad Cali is going well.

Great photos! We hope the rest of the West Coast book tour has gone well. We look forward to the kickoff of your European tour next month.

I gorged myself on tacos in the Mission when I was stateside in November. I never knew I loved Mexican food so much until I moved abroad!

You are so pretty! And just radiant on this book tour. Congratulations again!
