Spring has sprung forth

Does Paris need another gourmet food boutique? You betch yer hot dog, says the American-chef-who-took-Paris-by-storm, Daniel Rose. Last night, he celebrated the arrival of this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau, as well as the opening of the Spring Boutique in the 1st arrondissement, with a wine-tasting (photo above). By the way, the long-awaited new location of Spring restaurant will open across the street on 21 March. Yes, that’s the first day of spring.

So, what’s on offer at the boutique?

Fancy flavored vinegar…

Many kinds of honey…

Assorted coffee…

Wine (with a focus on small producers), selected by the shop’s new caviste, Josh Adler (pictured above).

Boudin blanc — and perhaps other sausages? In America, we call those hot dogs.

We nibbled bits of ham from a village near Lyon, and sipped tastes of different wines (I liked the Loire Valley whites from Domaine Breton). The curious consumer can stop by for wine, charcuterie, olive oil, chocolate and more.

    It was a jolly scene, with dozens gathered in a convivial crowd out on Dry Tree Street. As a fervent fan of vinegar, I was surprised and pleased to see the different varieties. Framboise? Cassis? Wow. So next time you get lost in the Chatelet habitrail, it’s worth popping out into the city to check out this store!
