Pups of Paris

By Ann | November 12, 2009

The French love their dogs, it is true. Pups pop up everywhere in Paris. Everywhere? Mais oui, and I’ve the photographic evidence to prove it. They’re hanging with their pals, enjoying coffee at the café (photo above)…

Getting their fur coiffed chez le hairdresser…

Swallowing a yawn on the métro…

Squeezing themselves onto a crowded crosstown bus…

And gossiping with girlfriends at St Sulpice…

I hope you enjoyed this dog’s tour of Paris. Next up — French felines…? I’ve been on a hunt for Parisian kitty cats and so far have only found one. If you know where les chats are hanging out, leave me a comment!

    Sweet photos!

Have you ever seen the book “Betty and Rita Go to Paris?” It’s a charmer!

Absolutely love the chez le coiffeur photo. Willie’s grooming experience at the Dog from Ipanema (misspelled, I am sure) looks nothing like that!

Nothing surpasses the pooch under the table next to us at Les Ambassadeurs. Brian and I decided that it probably eats better than we do, most nights.

Marco and I have become friends with a kitty whose owner lets him out to play in the courtyard of our building (she lives on the rez-de-chaussée — well in fact, rez-de-jardin), so when he wants to return home, he just leaps up to the windowsill and goes back in!

    Ann,
I always think it would be funny to do a photo essay called “The Dogs of War-saw.” But oh how different those photos would be… Love the little tastes of Paris life you give us. Thanks for letting us live vicariously!

Completely hilarious! I can’t decide whether my favorite is the gossiping dog or the lab in the cafe, with the waiter darting by!

Super cute! My three dogs say woof woof, and I wish they were clean enough to take to the cafe with me. HA!

Did you spot any dogs in yoga classes? We have them in New Agey Ashland, Oregon. Funny thing: While I was doing the downward dog, the poodle next to me just laid there, looking completely bored. Fun topic!

Polly — I hadn’t heard of that book, but just looked it up on Amazon — so CUTE! Can’t wait to check it out at the bookshop.

Heather — Isn’t Willie a terrier? The salon dog might be his long-lost French cousin!

Sherry — I spotted a pup, too, in a fancy restaurant at lunchtime! I tried to take a photo, but it didn’t turn out. I love the idea of a pooch eating at Les Ambassadeurs.

Kim B. — Lucky city cat!

Sarah — Ha! I love it! Let me know if you’d like to do a guest post here sometime ;)

Chris — And both of those were taken at Café de la Mairie — previously my favorite people-watching spot, now good for canine-watching!

Lee — Your tough Beijing dogs would kick this French pups in the boot-ay!

Janet — How cute! Downward dogs with actual dogs! I’ve got to visit Ashland one of these days…
