News about my novel

By Ann | October 22, 2009

Bonjour, mes amis, and please forgive me for today’s shameless self promotion! But I’m so thrilled to share this new blurb for my novel, Kitchen Chinese, from Franco-American culinary doyenne, former restaurant critic for the International Herald Tribune, and cookbook author, Patricia Wells:

“Ann Mah’s richly detailed Kitchen Chinese is humorous enough to make you laugh out loud, and so delicious you are sure to begin craving Peking duck and dim sum. A true tale of reinventing oneself in a new and foreign world.”

–Patricia Wells, author of We’ll Always Have Paris… and Provence

I’ve long been an admirer of Patricia Wells and especially love her cookbooks At Home in Provence and Vegetable Harvest. I feel extremely honored by her kind words and touched by her support of my novel.

For more news about my book, including more blurbs and a brief description, please click here. Or, pre-order the book on Amazon, which would thrill me to bits!

And last but not least, thanks, as always, for YOUR support, mes amis! My heart is full.

UPDATE: Click here to read an interview with me that just ran in Publishers Weekly!

Was Patricia Wells a chef first or a writer first? Regardless, I share her affection for the cuisine of Provence … and for “Kitchen Chinese”!

Chris — I don’t know about Patricia Wells’s chicken/egg question… but I do know she used to write for the Washingtonian magazine!

Heather — Tu es TROP gentille!

    Claire — Aw, thanks.

Zoe — I can’t wait to read YOUR book, Balancing Acts, coming in March!

Kim B. — It was great seeing you at lunch last week!

Bob — Thanks! I’m glad you liked the book. Of course, your opinion may be slightly biased considering you’re my parent…

I hope you’ll check out the Publishers Weekly interview (link above) in which the journalist was kind enough to make me sound like a normal person and not a neurotic raving lunatic!

Congratulations! How thrilling to get kind, encouraging words from someone you admire. (Happened to me last night, in fact, at the awesome event you put together. So thanks!)

Thanks for your sweet message, Camille. And thank you for coming to the event at the American Library in Paris! I’m glad you had a chance to talk to some of the authors.

I did not know you were writing a book. It looks wonderful and I look forward to finding a copy. Is it available yet for purchase?

Ashleigh — Awesome to hear from you! Yes, I wrote the book when I was living in Beijing. I didn’t tell many people because I was so nervous about it! I would be honored if you bought a copy! It comes out February 9, in time for Chinese new year. In the meantime, look forward to following your tweets!

    Chère Ann,

Félicitations! I am reading each and every review (a friend in London just sent me your PW interview!) and I’ve just discovered the latest PW review… this time Patricia Wells! I have her books here in my French kitchen… and soon yours will be here too!
