French food news: Organic markets in Paris

By Ann | March 18, 2009

Ahoy, mate! In the Luxembourg Gardens

Welcome to another edition of Food Wednesday, now renamed “French food news” in a blatant attempt to attract more readers to this humble blog. So, what’s going on in French food media this week?

Le Figaroscope dedicates its round-up to Paris’s three organic markets, including “my” Raspail market (boulevard Raspail, métro Rennes, Sundays, 9am-2pm). The others are the Marché des Batignolles (boulevard des Batignolles, between métro Rome and métro Place-Chichy, Saturdays, 9am-2pm), and Marché Brancusi (Place Brancusi, métro Gaîté, Saturdays, 9am-1pm). Check out the article here.

The NYT’s health blog has a fun post on how your “cooking personality” affects the healthiness of what you cook — I sort of fall between “healthy” and “innovative.” Check out the post, or take the quiz.

Parisian pastry prince, Pierre Hermé, reveals his apartment at The Selby, a website that features “the creative spaces of interesting people.” His flat is surprisingly modest, with a sleek but small kitchen — I was interested to note that he has an electric stove. View the photos here.

Okay, mes amis, that’s about it for this week. It’s another beautiful day here in Paris, but again I am trapped in the apartment. The lights in the kitchen are fixed but now we have a leak in the bathroom… Come soon Monsieur Plombier!

After shopping, visitors to the Raspail organic market can also stop in at Le Tourne Bouchon for a delicious and inexpensive couscous lunch! A post-prandial walk to the Luxembourg Gardens to watch the sailboats on the pond — see photo above — is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

You make me long for Paris. My husband just lost his job, so I don’t think there is a trip to Paris in the near future, so thanks for reminding me what a city of splendor Paris is!

    I love that Selby link!

Maybe I’ve been living under a macaron, but I had no idea that’s what Pierre Herme looks like. Not what I expected? Like a much happier Debussy.

    Wishing you a speedy plumb…
