March 20, Free Macaron Day
By Ann | March 10, 2009

It’s like Christmas in March! Or, it will be next Friday, March 20, when his macaron majesty, Pierre Hermé, distributes four (4) FREE macarons to all his dessert devotés, at all four of his Paris boutiques.
Recipients of the sweet treats are asked only to make a donation to Monsieur Hermé’s pet cause, la Fédération des Maladies Orphelines.
So, celebrate “Le jour du macaron” by queuing up at any of the following Pierre Hermé addresses (best to arrive early — we’re sure the lines will be fierce):
-133 avenue des Champs-Elysées, 8ème (au publicdrugstore)
-72 rue Bonaparte, 6ème
-185 rue de Vaugirard, 15ème
-4 rue Cambon, 1er
And if you’re not in Paris, fear not — we’ll report back with photos!

I was in Paris in ‘07 for the first time with my friend Sybil Kretzmer. She took me to LaDuree’ for macaroons. It was heavenly! I had never tasted anything like them. Since I’ve been back in California, I have only found one place where I can find them, a little bakery in Westwood (L.A.)named, appropriately, Paris. Wish I was in Paris now, so I could have one for free!

Oh, I love Paris bakery in Westwood! How lucky that you can find macarons where you live!
I think one never forgets their first macaron — mine was from Paul, chocolatey rich and gooey. Pierre Hermé is known for more adventurous flavors like foie gras (yes, he really did), or the more “normal” caramel with sea salt.
