Flashback to Provence: V Comme Vin wine shop
By Ann | August 27, 2008
Don’t worry, Cooking the Books is still blogging live from Paris. But I forgot to mention earlier a wonderful wine shop in Apt, one of the larger towns in the Luberon region of Provence. It’s called V Comme Vin (photo above) and aside from their huge selection of French wine, they offer an especially large assortment of wine from the local region, aka côte de Luberon. The area’s rosé (which I once saw described on a café menu as “pinkish wine”) is famous, but I especially enjoyed a silky-smooth red that was under 10 euros. Alas, I am bad at wine blogging, and did not take notes on the labels or prices. Hopefully, I will get into the habit of writing down this essential information before I guzzle the wine and drunkenly chuck the bottle out of my window onto the street. (Just kidding! I recycle!) But this little wine shop deserves a mention for good counsel and prices. (Side note: I think it must be a badge of honor in France NOT to recommend an astronomically priced bottle of wine.) Also, if you visit the Apt farmer’s market on Saturdays, this is a convenient place to find a bottle to accompany your meal.

I am always abashed about asking for help in wine stores (combo of being shyish and guyish, I guess), but the V Comme Vin people do make it easy. They truly helpful and did not condescend or upsell. They also were generous in offering tastes of bottles we were considering buying.
